Our second day in Yellowstone started with a bison jam just as we entered the park. What a fun reason for a traffic jam!
We chose to turn onto Firehole Canyon Drive as we headed toward Old Faithful. Firehole Canyon is a one-way scenic spur off the main road. It was a beautiful little detour!
The winding rivers seemed like a piece of paradise, the water amazingly clear. Maybe we will return to try our hand at fly fishing.
We saw a beautiful trumpeter swan.
View of Lower Geyser Basin in the distance.
View of Grand Prismatic Spring from the boardwalk.
After seeing the spring from below, we decided that the view from above was a must-do. We hiked the Fairy Falls Trail until we were beside the spring and then we did what we should not have done - we scrambled off-trail. Yes, I know going off-trail destroys delicate growth and promotes erosion. But heaven help me - the view!!
Then we were off to see Old Faithful!
We took the same detour when we were in Yellowstone. It's a beautiful drive. I'm hoping we can do more hiking if we get back there.
ReplyDeleteOH MY---makes me want to go back NOW.. We absolutely love that place. There's just SO much to see and do there... So glad you are doing many of the same things that we did....
